Can’t I charge my vehicle using a standard 3-pin socket?
It is true that technically you don’t need to get a dedicated EV charging point installed. You can use a humble 3-pin socket that we all have at home. To do this, you will need a 3-pin charging cable – some vehicles come with them, some don’t.
However, there are pros and cons of 3-pin plug charging as follows:

In summary: It's quicker and safer to charge your electric vehicle with a professionally installed charge point.
Annoyingly, electric vehicle manufacturers don't put the car charging port in the same location for every model.
For example, the Nissan Leaf and MG ZS EV put the port at the front of the car. By contrast, Tesla's charging ports are at the back on the left. The Audi e-tron has two ports: one front left, the other front right.
So when you come to have a charging point installed, think carefully about where the charging point will be located, to ensure it's not too far from your car's charging port.
